Hi

I work in an aged care environment as a recreational activity officer for more than a year now and  planning to study Bachelor in Nursing but I am already 52 yrs old do you think I would still be accepted? I finished Bachelor of Science in Chemical Eng'g - graduated 1983 overseas do you think this would help?

I am thinking of enrolling in UTAS since they have two yrs study only I mean the fast track study of nursing.

Any idea or suggestions if universities would still accept me and employment wise do you think there is still a chance for me to be employed by the time I finished I will be 54yrs old considering if I passed it all.

I would appreciate for your thoughts and advise.

Thanks.

Jade

I had a uni mate who graduated with me and she was 54 when she graduated. She got into a graduate program in a mental health facility and it was her 1st choice (NSW gives you 8 choices). She is a high distinction student and is very outspoken. If you believe you can achieve that, then by all means go ahead.

The graduate programs is highly competitive, especially in recent years as there seems to be too many new graduates and no positions available. In short, if you do not prove yourself to be good and outstanding, you might end up wasting your 2 years as your working lifespan is alot shorter compared to someone who just entered uni straight from high school. I'm not trying to discriminate against older folks, but that is the situation right now.

As for your degree, it is best to check with the uni of choice if your degree will be accepted as each uni varies.
