Hi jim2014,
first of all, nursing and propensity to commit assault don't go together, so you should seriously consider if nursing is the right career path for you. That said, mistakes happen and don't have to define who we are.
Having a conviction for a criminal offence, depending on what it is can be career limiting. I am most familiar with the Aged Care legislation and that states that an aged care facility cannot hire any staff who have been convicted of an assault and sentenced to imprisonment, among other things.

I dont know anything about Section 10, but this reference indicates it could be that you were convicted without charge, meaning the conviction wont appear on your criminal record check:

If I were you, I'd get a criminal record check done, including working with children and the aged and see what it says. As that is what all of your potential employers will do. If it comes up that you have a conviction for assault, it may cause you difficulties, but as per the aged care definition above, wont automatically preclude you.
