Hi, I'm really interested in becoming a nurse and would love to start studying and working as soon as possible. I would eventually like to become a paediatric nurse, but to begin with, I don't mind which field of nursing. I was thinking of doing 'Health Services Assistance (Assisting in Nursing Work in Acute Care) - Certificate 3 NRT' from TAFE (I'm in Sydney) and was relieved to find the fee to be around $350 per semester. Then, a couple of weeks ago, I saw another course for 'Enrolled Division 2 Nursing', also at TAFE, and it costs $12800 for one year! Yikes! It says that this course is covered by VET-FEE HELP, so that means I don't have to pay anything until I start working, right?

For anyone who has done either of the above courses, could you please tell me how you felt about the course, and for anyone who knows, what's the difference between the two (apart from the fees!)? Why would someone do the $12800 course, when you only need to pay $350 for another nursing couse?

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from Sydney Uni, plus a few science subjects I did at uni, so I have good verbal/maths skills.

Thank you so much for your help.
