Hi, everyone, i am new here...
I am wondering about how to get entry into an enrolled nurse course without year 12 qualifications?
I finished year 10 last year and decided not to go on to year 11 - 12, for a number of reasons.. I then started my Certificate Three in Aged Care, I have now almost finished that, but what I really want to do is study nursing. SO I have been looking into applying for mid-year entry into the Gold Coast tafe's online diploma of nursing but i'm not sure if their's much point without the year 12...
I'd love to hear from anyone that has gotten into the nursing diploma course without their hsc and also anyone who has done or is doing the nursing course at goldcoast tafe - was it very hard to get into/whats the application process like? And also, will my cert 3 in aged care help me to get in (i'm not yet working in aged care)? Thanks for reading!

I don't think you need year 12 to get into enrolled nursing. I am doing it at the moment and there are many in the class that haven't done year 12. You have to pass a vetassess test and doing enrolled nursing is a great way to get into nursing if you haven't finished year 12. I also did cert III last year and loved it. Good luck.

Hi Persephone, You don't need year 12 but everyone HAS TO sit the VETASSESS TEST . Contact all the tafe's in your area find out when the next information sessions are on there usually not long before the next intake which I think are around July and Feb. Sign up to do the vetassess test asap even before the info evening as you can only sit it only once every 3 months. Go to the vetassess website www.vetassess and sign up for the next one and do that there is also a practice test for the numeracy section which shows you what sort of thing to expect. Looks a bit scary at first but once you sit down and go through it it's really not that bad. There is also a grammar section and essay section as well. I was told that there would be an essay on Why do you want to enter the nursing profession? and Write a letter to your 17yo son/daughter why you want them to quit smoking based on an article they provide guess that would have stats that you could use. Someone else that sat the test said that they got the essay topic something like how would you liked to be treated if you were bedridden. A bit daunting but hope it helps cause for me at least it allowed me to do as much preparation as possible!!! I'm sitting my Vettassess Test this Wed night for the July intake and I don't mind saying I'm extremely nervous but oh well I'll give it my best shot. On the info night they also recommended that for those who don't get in should go and do the Bridge into Nursing Course which is only short but really helps to get you through the test. Be prepared for the huge numbers that turn up to the info night about 200 turned up for ours but I doubt that so many will actually do the test or do particularly well but best be prepared. Good luck to you and hang in there guess after this Wed night I'll be able to tell you what my test was like and how close the numeracy section was to the sample test they provide on the website.. Just let me know if you want me to do so. See Ya Jill

Hi Persephone I have not completed a year 12 qualification either, however I was asked to do the VETASSESS test. - Maths has never been my strong point and after 2 attempts I still did not reach the desired level of 3-4. My "case" has been passed onto the nursing faculty and I'll find out what becomes of it next week. Of course carpentry mathematics has nothing to do with nursing but I guess they have to know you are capable of some math skills. I see you posted this a while ago, how are you going now? :-)
