Hi  everyone,

I am starting EN nursing with GCIT this jan,2014. and am wondering how you are finding the course,

also are there the normal TAFE holidays in the course, like that match in with school hoildays? and if so are the compatable with QLD school holiday times or NSW.

I live  in Grafton NSW and have children.

Thank you for any help.

The course fee wont be any less because you are a single mother.  It is only when you earn of a certain amount that you will need to pay it back.  Here is a link to the page with the information.  http://studyassist.gov.au/sites/studyassist/payingbackmyloan/loan-repayment/pages/loan-repayment

Hi all, with regards to this course.  When one has to go to Queensland to do the practical assessments, do they provide food and accommodation?  Are these costs on top of the course fees?  When they try and find something close to home with regards to the 400 hours, do they usually choose aged care facilities?  Are any of you qualified yet and now working?

I finish this course at the end of June.  All costs for attending the Qld Residential Schools (one per semester) are at the student's expense.  People in my group have had to pay airfares and accommodation/food etc.

In regard to the 400 hours - yes they will try to find placement close to your home if you're interstate etc.  Of the 400 hours only 120hrs is done at an aged care facility.  The rest has to be done in an acute setting e.g. hospital.

Hope this helps.

Hi Lainey and Mel, I am wondering if this course is worthwhile and more importantly can you get work after the course. Does the college help you in the job search or do you have to go it alone when you finish.

thanks

I am located on the Gold Coast and we were offered clinical placement in Allamanda Hospital in a Cohort Program where all our 400 hours placement is done within the Hospital. It depends on your location and what is offered, it may different for interstate students on how they do placement, you would best speaking directly with that department and they will give you correct answers. I was under the understanding we would do some aged care placement but this program was offered to the online students local to Gold Coast for the cohort program so I accepted it.

I am starting the course in July and work full time as well. I would be interested in knowing of other ppl that have studied part time and worked full time, did you find it hard to complete assessments and find time to study?
