Hi all,
I'm a mother of 2 in my 30's who has wanted to become a midwife for years. I thought the best avenue would be to study the Diploma of nursing to become an EEN (I'm in NSW).
A few months back RAMSAY advertised that applications were open to study through them and TAFE full time. I applied, got through the 4(!) rounds of tests, applications, interviews etc.
I was offered a place a week ago and ever since I have had major doubts about what I am doing.
The course is advertised at 12-18 months (they haven't been able to narrow it down any further than that... which I find a tad frustrating. It's 'full time' but the contact theory hours are only Wed, Thurs, Fri 9-12noon (one day is prac 12-5pm).
All placements will be done at a private ramsay hospital.
I am meant to be signing up and enrolling mid Sept but I feel like there is just too much unknown! How have others found it? Is it as hard as they keep saying?! "Don't think you'll be having any holidays for 12-18months, this course is intense!"
Why are the the contact hours so few? Is it expected that a lot of assignments are done at home?
Also, I'm very much a kinesthetic learner, are the textbooks and essays going to be very difficult for me?
For $14,000 of debt, and no income for 12-18months I am really concerned that it's not going to be my thing.
ANY input at all is greatly appreciated as I don't know anyone who has done this to bounce my million questions off.
Many thanks.
