Hi - I am reading over my notes about my intended diploma in nursing Div 2) course next year - and I noticed that if you fail a subject test then fail it again (you are only allowed to sit it twice) you are unable to finish the course. Has this happened to anyone? Or do you know anyone this has happened to? I am not unintelligent but neither am I a 'brain box' so I am a little scared at the thought I'm just wondering waht the odds of this happening are to a person of 'average' intelligence?

Hey there girl,

Don't stress too much over it. Although some people have to repete the subject i haven't heard of any one totally dropping out because of failing twice. Each exam you will get a resit and most assignments will give you a resubmit so thats really four times doing the same exam or assignment and if you cant get it by then well you would have to be really dumb or the teacher just hates you. It takes 3 teachers to fail you any way so most people pass. Some advice and trust me you should take it, Read up on your A&P know it inside out because thats what its all about if you know that the rest will come with ease...

Good luck and go ace it!

Hi Nicole

Thanks for your reply - my mind is at ease now (I think LOL). A & P - am I right in thinking this means Anatomy & Physiology - I haven't started the course yet! Could you suggest any good reading matter on the subject so I can get a head start. A kind soul has recommended Tabbners Nursing Care Text book so I have that on my list of 'to buy'. Would A&P be included in this book or is there a separate book?

Thanks once again

Suzie

I tell you what i would love to tell you to go get the books i have but, i think that its better to have the ones that are recommended as all of our other classmates will have them and it makes it easy to ring them and ask about a page your stuck on pluss the teacher will use them for marking. Afew of the girls found some awsome stuff looking at special nursing book shops and on the net. The recommended text we used were Crisp & Talyor 2005, And Brown & Edwards 2005 but they are around $100 each so hold out and by the recommended or hire some from the liberary to get you started. Dont forget have a look at the nursing council wedsites get to know the scope of practice and remember it gets amended (updated) reg.

Take care and have fun its exciting to be a nurse!

Thanks once again Nicole.

The library is a good idea until I need to buy the listed books!

Yes this is true. You can only re-sit the exam once if you have failed it and then you have to re-do the subject. I have heard of ppl it has happened to but not to anyone in my class. In order to fail it twice though it would involve you not studying barely any information and just not really trying very hard so I am certain that you will be fine.

Our final exam (in 3 weeks) is the one that apparently a few have had to re-sit and a couple have failed the resit in past years...I am terrified. But I have done well and I know I read and write and study and ask questions so I am sure I will be ok.

Try not to stress. It all sounds so scary on paper but really, its not as bad as it all sounds

Thanks Keeshy - That's what I wanted to hear - that if I put a good effort in then I should (fingers crossed) be ok.

Good Luck BTW with your exam in 3 weeks - what a lovely feeling you'll have when it's all done!
