I am currently employed in a job that I enjoy. I work an even time roster. 4 days on, 4 days off. Sometimes its 2 days on, 6 days off. I obviously have quite a bit of time off which I would like to take advantage of and work a second job. I have wanted a second job for a long time but the skills I possess for my current job aren't desirable outside its industry. And there is no room to increase my current work opportunities. I currently try and get a bit of labouring work or push a mower around for a few extra $$$ but would like something a bit more permanent.

I am male, aged 31. My mum has been a FT nurse for a long time (35+ years), reaching retirement. She has suggested nursing as a second job for a long time and is now even offering to finance this endeavour.

She believes it is a good option as a second job working casual or part time. We live in different states so perhaps it is possible that her own insight of what opportunities exsist are different in other states. Perhaps some others can shed some light. I am in QLD, Brisbane.

So just wondering if anyone would make any comments on whether nursing is a good idea as a second job. Have no issues with the training side of things. Interested in EN. Just job availablity and hours. My biggest concern is that someone just entering nursing they would want on the floor as much as possible to gain experience?? I would guess my potential hours week to week could range anywhere from 20-40+.

Interested to hear anyones thoughts.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Cheers,

Jason
