Hi all,

I'm interested in studying nursing next year :) Because I already have a degree, I'd like to take advantage of either of the following brisbane courses which offer you to become a registered nurse in TWO years.

- Masters of Nursing Studies (at Uni of Queensland)

- Bachelor of Nursing Studies (at Queensland University of Technology)

Can I ask if anyone has completed or is completing either of the courses above or if anyone has any feedback / advise as to how I should choose which one to prioritise in my QTAC application?

They both offer a two year course and you end up with a register nurse qualifications.... just not sure how to choose between them?!?

Thanks in advance.

LOL...funny to find you here after seeing your post on study connect. If you have already narowed it down to either UQ or QUT, then you really cannot go wrong. The problem currently faced by graduating students is getting employed. Most will fail to gain entry via the most common route - Graduate Nurse Program. However this does not mean the end of the world and you can apply directly to a hospital and if your contacts are good, your chances of gaining eomployment will definitely look better.

Sorry fo my long windedness...lol....I have not seen any UQ nursing students come through Prince Charles' door. So if you plan to gain employment in Prince Charles (aka TPCH), post graduation you will do better signing up with QUT. QUT even has a Medical Research Engineering Facility on TPCH's grounds! UQ's campus for nursing is in Ipswich, so unless you live close to or in Ipswich, you will have some problem getting there. Some UQ students get placements in Ipswich Hospital (Public) but strangerly, that hospital will not accept fresh students as nurses EXCEPT through a graduate nurse program. So if you fail to secure a GNP offer from hospitals you applied to, you will have to do try to gain employment directly into a hospital. You can discount Ipswich Hospital despite having served there during prac. In short if you are from UQ and got placed there, it can limit your post graduation options.

Prince Charles and RBH on the other hand does accept fresh graduates out from school. If you were doing your placements in either these hospitals (you will if you are from QUT, because 90% of QUT students will go through BOTH these hospitals during their tenure with the Universiy), you can suck up to the NUMs and hopefully stand out...lol.

Good luck

Hi Schizo,

yes - lol that you have answered both my posts!!! thank you for your time in sharing your wealth of knowledge and experience with me - much appreciated. :)

I guess for me it will be just a matter of more reading and research so I know what to prioritise.

Exciting times ahead!

thanks again.
