I began studying to be a nurse in 2007 through CDU but had to take time off due to pregnancy related issues and my daughter being diagnosed with a degenerative illness. I am now looking at going back to nursing next year (2011), however with the CDU course change it wil take me till the end of 2013 to finish. I will be moving to QLD next year from WA.
A friend told me that I have to finish the course within 6 years from the commencement date in order to get registration. She heard this from a WA univeristy. Which would mean I would have to finish in 2012 to qualify for registration (impossible for me to finish a year earlier due to course changes).
I emailed CDU and all I got was a cryptic answer saying an application for registration with 7 years of study for a 3 year degree "MAY" not be looked on favourably. However they know of students that got through ok with 7 years of study due to reasons like mine. I cant start fresh because I passed some of the units that have rolled over into the new degree so HECS wont actually allow me to redo them apparently.
They urged me to contact the registration board before discussing my options with uni, but i cant get hold of them and no one is answering my email. I also cannot find anything relating to the maximum timeframe to finish a course on the website.
Has anyone taken longer than 6 years to finish a bachelor of nursing (pre-registration) and still gotten through the registration process ok?
