I have put in an application to study for a bachelors of nursing using the graduate entry fast track method. I have worked in a pathology lab as a scientist for more than ten years but can now not obtain work in the field due to the large number of medical students available who take on the positions while waiting to finish their studies. I am over 50. I have recently completed some study in IT. At my age it is difficult to find work, but I want to work. I am fit, healthy and love doing stuff for others.

When I graduate as a RN, I would like to enter aged care as I seem to always end up looking after the elderly in one way or another and have a good knowledge of difficulties for them.

My question is will I be considered too old at 55 to be a graduate RN worth taking on?

You're not too old, there are older graduates in all fields these days as people don't stay in one job all their lives. Go for it and good luck, you will do fine.

an old work colleague I know of went and studied EN  and is now doing RN. She's in her mid to late 40's. Just go for it! You have as much of a right as anybody else!

Go for it! Mature-age students are highly valued and seem much more motivated & enthusiastic. Life experience counts for so much in this field. Good luck!
