Hi all,

My name's Natalie, i'm a newbie here. I have a strong ambition to do a Diploma of Nursing at TAFE. I have a 15mo so this maybe a little bit tougher for myself. I'm 22, and completed grade 10 but dropped out for personal reasons. I have done a few TAFE courses afterwards but lacked ambition to complete them. I recently put an application via QTAC here in Brisbane and anxiously awaiting.

Is there any special qualifications/criteria you need to get into this course, is it easy to get into?

How long does it normally take to hear back?

Is it compulsory to sit the VETASSESS test?

What sorts of questions do they ask?

Thanks in advance

You can apply to your nearest TAFE with a nursing section to study the Dip Nurs. Ring your local TAFE to find out enrolment dates and if they are offering the Diploma of Nursing. It takes 18 months full-time to do your endorsed enrolled nurse course. Part-time or flexible study loads are an option, but most colleges prefer that you study full-time, as it is not a highly intensive course anyway, ie the modules are spread out over a long period of time with plenty of time to finish them in advance. If you would like to become an endorsed enrolled nurse (specialist), you will need to complete the Advanced Dip of Nursing, which requires completion of seven modules and takes six months' of full-time study to complete.

It's not compulsory to sit VETASSESS if you have a relevant Certificate III (e.g. health services assistance, aged care, veterinary nursing, dental assistance or optical dispensing) or a Higher School Certificate. VET FEE-HELP is available and reduces study costs significantly. If you are an AIN or PCA, you may be able to claim your education costs (school fees and expenses) as tax deductions related to your employment and skills advancement in your current field.
