I think its relevant thread, coz he did say that he would introduce another 2000 ECU beds into hospitals. If that was done, that would save the health system stacks of money and get people off waiting lists. I did one prac where most of the patients the whole 4 wks were just elderly people waiting for a nursing home, and taking up valuable beds and money. Despite it being a medical ward, it was still costly. If you got rid of the elderly/ pple waiting for say rehab etc into a special waiting ward thing, that would get people through so much quicker.

Im not sure what other health stuff he promised but yeah he's a fresh start and stuff, and I know that people say that Labor have stuffed up things in each state and stuff but yeah. i guess we have to wait and see.

It will certainly mean a change.

I have deliberately avoided putting election news on NurseCentral because I didn't want it to become politically oriented.

Given that running hospitals has been a state responsibility, it will be interesting to see if Rudd can actually make a difference there. No doubt he has the opportunity will labor across the country to radically change the system, but will he have the fortitude to pull it off?

There were a few nursing promises in the election, so it would be good if people could put up some links to policies that will have a direct impact on nurses and nursing for us to consider.

I agree that politics shouldn't enter this page. But I do like the idea of finding links to various policies. Eventually we are all going to work under Labor's plans, no matter what our voting preferences are. I just hope a new era will bring positive change. And perhaps now there will be enough of a balance between Labor, Liberal, other parties and Independents in the Houses to allow real debate and production of more rounded policies and laws and acts. I just hope that our members will truly represent their constituents instead of their parties. One can only dream...

I'm a member of the Qld Nurses Union and they sent us a heap of information about the threats to health and in particular, nurses. There are a few articles there if you want to peruse them go to www.qnu.org.au

I didnt intend for this page for politics, more about the effects on nursing.
