Hi all,

Just came across this site and it seemed it had a wealth of information, so I was hoping to get some advice and opinions. I've completed my Year 12 VCE in Victoria 2007 and had set my sights into Architecture so hadn't bothered doing subjects such as Biology and Chemistry. A year later and I have jumped careers and want to pursue a career in Nursing I did think about it prior making my decision for Architecture but had wrong impressions about the career. The past few months I have been finding out a fair few of my relatives are/were in the Nursing area and gave me a great insight in the career, and now I very much want to get into it myself.

Here is where I need help and advice, I want to start some kind of nursing course next year as soon as possible, it's too late for the Nursing Degree and I wouldn't be able to get into it, as I don't have the requirements. So I saw the Cert IV in Nursing and it seemed like a right choice, I've spotted 2 places so far that offer it and hope am not too late to get in!

- Mayfield Education // Cert IV in Nursing (Enrolled/Division 2 Nursing

- Box Hill Institute // Cert IV in Nursing (Enrolled/Division 2 Nursing (ok ignore this one, says to check back there in April, to long away :()

If anyone has advice as to what I should do/ steps I should take to get into Nursing I'd be very grateful.

~Dom

Dom

YOu need to sit the vetassess test in order to get accepted into cert IV in nursing. You go to vetassess website and register to sit test at the tafe you wish to enrol at or the closest one and send you results to the tafe you applied at.

I had to send direct application form which i downloaded of the tafe website so check that with your tafe.

Good luck with it. I hope you get in.

Hi Dom,

Where abouts in Melbourne are you located? There are quite a few Uni's/TAFE's that offer the Div 2 and some of these places also offer mid year intakes. So if you're too late to get in at the beginning of next year, you could perhaps look at the midyear intake? I know Chisholm in Dandenong (location?) offer midyear intake. Or, at least they did a couple years ago when i was looking into it. Other places to look into applying at include Swinburne Croydon, Homesglen Institute and RMIT Uni. When I was applying they all were offering the course a couple years ago. That's just naming a few, I'm sure there's others also. It also depends in whether you're wanting to go to a public TAFE or a private collage. I know some private institutions offer the course as well, but of course, it costs alot more!

Sounds to me like a good idea to apply for the Div 2 course in your position. Upon completing the Div 2 you can then decide if you wish to pursue the career further and go to uni to do your Div 1. I was in a similar situation to you a couple years ago. I've now just finished first year of Uni at Deakin and am loving what i'm learning, i think it'll be a great career!

If you have any other questions, i'll be happy to help out where i can! Good luck with it all!

Rach :-)
