Tonight I experienced my first ever cardiac/respiratory arrest.

Pt was an elderly man who came in for a flap and was on NGFs. Past few days he was really crackly and stuff ilke that and his secretions were thick and was on regular suctioning. Today the RNS looking after him noticed him getting back to his chair and then he stopped breathing. THey hit the er button and we went running in and coz it was the critical bay, we naturally got the crash trolley.

We started gettign the bed clear and stuff and the code team came very quickly which is great and we started cpr coz then he didnt have a pulse. I did the CPR and boy does that make you tired rather quickly!! My hand is numb as a result..which isnt good. I then went and bagged him eventually near teh end and the drs went to call his family and decide wheter or not to send him to ICU or not. They decided to keep him on the ward after a while coz he had spontanous breathing and then for him to either wake up or pass away.

Incidentally the medical team were tmw gng to have a family meeting tmw to discuss NFR status and they had to do it today sadly. They were there when they removed the gadel and apparently he went in like 7minutes, then his family left. So sad to see that happen but considering how much stuff was in his lungs its not a suprise.May he RIP.
