Hi everyone, i am going to apply to TAFE to hopefully enrol in the Diploma EN course. I have no previous experience or qualifications in the nursing field. I am 37 and have had a strong work background both here in Perth and the UK. I wanted to studying nursing years ago in the UK but was a single parent with 3 children with very little support. Now i have a fab support network and feel the time is right for me now to take the plunge. My concerns are the entry requirements, i have no exam results from 21 years ago and my maths capabilities leave a lot to be desired, its a long time since ive been in study mode. Can someone please point me in the right direction.............thanks heaps :)

Nicky, GO for it...certainly with life experience, you'll be a great nurse. I would recommend for you to approach the various TAFES and enquire directly what they require as pre-requisite to sign up. Each TAFE may differ slightly so, try approaching a few TAFEs to get a feel. Maths is easy...trust me its not as hard as its made out to be....you'll find your feet very quickly. Wishing you all the best

Nicky have you considered doing a degree? For all you know, you might have all the pre-requisites to sign up. If so, it would definitely be a better option. Say if you have a prior degree, you can go the graduate entry route which is also 2 years. Cost wise is about the same as TAFE. The difference is that you graduate as an RN Div 1....and this means the stepping stone to specializing. Cheers...schizo
