Hi

I'm new here, about to start at ACU next week. It's a bit daunting and would love a heads-up on a few things.

The first is are there books that are unnecessary from the booklist? I've heard that is the case in the bachelor and would love to save the money (and my back) if possible. Also, what advice can anyone give who might have done this diploma before?

Any ideas or advice is gratefully received.

Sorry Ojay, I don't know any of the answers, but I too would like to know anything about the Diploma at ACU. I'm trying to decide between ACU and RMIT for mid year entry. I would like to know what the teaching style is like. I'm currently doing a Cert IV in Allied Health and am finding it like a primary school classroom. Maybe after you start I can get some feedback from you?

Well we're 4 weeks in and to be honest they're not very well organised. We only just got wifi logins today for example. The diploma's run by the TAFE department which is tiny and understaffed. Having said that I'm optimistic in terms of the quality of the content. We're just getting the essentials out of the way before we start on the lab units so I feel forgiving.

As for useful information you should be aware that ACU is not a VETFEEhelp provider so unless you can cover the fees yourself there's no HECS style loan system, at least not for this year (I'm told they will get to it in the future).

Any questions and I'd be happy to answer them if I can.

Hi,

Thanks for the info.

Oh, I didn't know ACU wasn't covered by VETFEEHelp, I was actually relying on that to pay my fees. I may have to rethink and go to RMIT.

Thanks

RMIT might be the better choice, yeah.

Erm.. that looks a lot like spam, Jerry which by the way, would be irrelevant given we're talking about Australian colleges.

Hey Ojay,

I'm starting at ACU Mid year, and wondered how you ended up going with your diploma? Also they still don't have the VET FEE help set up almost 2 years later haha :)

Can I ask you what they study hours were like? as I'm still hoping to work full time if i can?

Thanks

I think that you can ask your professor for clarification about the books and then consider possibly renting the textbooks.  It is a lot cheaper that way and when you are done with the book, you can ship it for free or buy it.  Also, you can ask your local library for the textbooks as well and a former student who has had the textbook previously in the class and does not want to keep it.  You can also consider an e-book for rent or for purchase if your professor would allow them in your class.  It will be stored in the computer and it does not take any room on your bookshelf.  I hope this helps you.  Purplespider, CNA
