Does anybody combine full time work with part time study?

I am thinking about a Bachelor of Nursing at either UniSA or CDU, externally, and i'm wondering how to manage the clinical placements around work. It's ok to get a day here or there, but 20 days in a row????

How do you do it?

Also, my husband is asking that I give doing this course 6 months of thought, to make sure it is something I REALLY want to do. If you were back in my shoes (before you enrolled) What kind of things do I really need to consider before committing?

Thanks for your help :)

Hi Lauren,

I work PT and study FT through UniSA (externally). Why is it that your husband is concerned that this is not really what you want to do? Are you already working in nursing or aged care? If not you could consider doing a shorter qualification in a related field. If it is the external thing you are after I am fairly sure tafe SA offers enrolled nursing (Div2 if you are victorian) through their Whyalla campus in this mode. It is an 18 month FTE course and would get you 12 months credit into most RN (Div 1) courses. I think Victoria is the only state that offers EN/Div 2 Cert IV these days and everywhere else is a Diploma. You could also undertake a cert III in aged care or a cert IV in disability, and there are many providers that offer these courses by distance education.

Hope this is helpful to you.

Steph.
