Hi, just have a few questions if someone can help me out please? I want to study nursing, preferably part time if I can, but I'm in Vic and there really don't seem to be any part time nursing courses here. I'm just about to start a WIST course (which is free to anyone in Australia, always a good thing!) through CQUni which is supposed to enable me to get direct entry to their external nursing course. I haven't heard anything really about the CQUni nursing course, does anyone have any feedback on it? All I can say is that so far the people there that I have spoken to have been lovely, very helpful. The other course I was looking at doing was the one through uniSA. But I have heard that you may need to go to SA to do your work placements. Does anyone know if the WIST course will help me to get into uniSA as well as CQUni? I am very worried about the travel time, costs and difficulty of organising everything for doing residential schools and work placements. Any help would be appreciated! :)

Hi Summerly,

I studied the LIFT course through CQU and found it very helpful and well run. Completing the LIFT course gave direct entry into the nursing degree. I'm currently studying nursing part-time doing 2 subjects per semester at CQU.

I have found CQU to be excellent. The delivery of the course is all on-line. Obviously you will need to attend residential schools which are held in Queensland. Not all subjects have a res school. Clinical placement can be done in your own state. So at least that will keep some of the costs down. If you have any questions give them a call, they have always been more than helpful to answer questions.

I don't know anything about uniSA, maybe someone else on the forum will be able to help. Good luck in what ever uni you select, I don't think you will regret it!

If you have any questions just ask.

Hi Dave, thanks heaps for the info! I have also been told that if I complete this wist course then I'll be able to get direct entry into nursing through CQU. Where are the residential schools held? I have heard that it is in Noosa, but I'm not too sure on that. I have not been to Queensland before so finding everywhere on the map and trying to accurately judge how long it would take to get there is a bit confusing. How does CQU organise placements? Obviously being able to do the clinical placements in Vic would make a huge difference to me, from a financial and childcare point of view. It would be just fabulous! And exams? Sorry if there are too many questions, but I can't make the call to their student advisory centre until tomorrow, and I'm very impatient wanting to know everything at once! Cheers, D.

Hi Summerly,

The residential schools are held in Noosa but also in Macay, Bunderburg and Rockhampton. You get the option to select the one that works best. I haven't done clinical placement yet. Normally clinical placement is 2 days a weeks for 10 weeks. This goes up for for 2 of the subjects in year 3. They try to get placement as close as possible. You can also do the exams in Victoria. They have 13 exam centers in Victoria so you can nominate the closest one to you.

If you have any questions just ask.

Thanks Dave! I think the Noosa campus would be the quickest one to get to. I've read that it is a 90 minute drive north of Brisbane, is this an accurate estimate? Cheers, D.

Hi Summerly, You will attend Residential School at the beginning of each semester. There is an airport at Maroochydore, 20 minutes from Noosa.

Your clinical Placement will be organised from the campus at Noosa and will be as close to your residence as possible.
