I have been reading the Aged Care Forum for some time now and enjoy the questions and comments.
This is my first post.
I have enrolled in a Certificate III in aged care, via TAFE Queensland and will start my study in July of this year [Lord willing.]
I guess my biggest hurdle would be coping with toiletries and showering of the residence.
Have any other writers to this forum experienced the same apprehension and what steps did you take to overcome such issues?

When you are sitting in the classroom how daunting it is my god i have to shower a person.. You have seen the education dvds on showering... But when it comes to the crunch gosh can i do this.... Yes you can...You will be on work placement and you will be buddied.. Pratice shaving on your male family members . I guess it comes down to the fact does the sight of a elderly body does it bother you. You have to ask yourself 'I have enrolled in cert 111 age care I care about our elderly. I am prepared to do this.. A great deal of our job is personal care.... You asked what steps did we take i over coming our apprehenshion well for me none.. It is part of you.. The need to care for our elderly.

Thank you GizJiz for the information you have provided for me and it makes a lot of sense what you are saying. Infact so much so that I have been inspired to seek volunteer work in an Aged Care Facility while I am waiting for my Cert III to commence.

Excellent idea Bobby. That way you will have a better understanding, and also a possible foot in the door. Good luck.

Thanks guys for all the suggestions and I receive them with joy as Aged Care is something very new to me, but I know that it is my calling so I am ready to take the good with the not so good.
Lord Bless.
