I am the manager of a house that was converted to become ESS a year ago. I would be interested in other staff who work in ESS facilities, and what 'extra' they provide.

Our place has tried many services most of which have been impracticle or useless.
For example our place is carpeted: looks nice except over time it will become putrid. No amount of vacuming will remove the blood, urine, faeces or other bodily fluids that have become embedded.
Our place also has a buffet table for 'self service': it is a high care faciliyt. Residents are too demented or immobile to be making their own breakfast or need full feed and cannot access the soolids anyway.

there are many others, but i want to know what services DO work in high care? what has been an improvement with the intorduction of ess?

also... how do other statf from non-ess houses react? i find that when other houses run out of something, they first come to us to take stock or equipment (under the false belief that we have more). We have to hide our stock therefore just to have enough (such as towels). attitudes are definately more passive agressive.

...what about work loads? The bosses have higher expectations and work loads for us than other staff. We have extra duties and a different set of rules. For examplle we must have faster call bell respoond times (seven dings for other houses, three for us before the DDON is notified of our slowness to respond). i could go on... but we have the same level of staffing (often short staffed) and the same rate of pay. I'm just hoping for a comparison i guess.
