Hi there,

I have been following the Forum for awhile now and have decided to make my 1st Post as I am a bit confused.

I am a Carer for a severe Parkinsons patient and work at his home 35 Hrs per week and have been doing so for the last 4 months.

I need to get my Cert III in Aged Care so I can go on after this job to do other jobs.

I can do an Online Course, one with Seek which costs around $1900, one with Cengage which costs around $1600, ( Which one I don't know )

I was wondering before I do this and fork out the $$$ which is Tax Deductable to myself, is there anything that you know that is on offer from the Government to assist me or my employer so I don't have to fork out the money or is that my only option ?

Thanks in advance,

Michael.

Hi from what I know, you can do your Certificate III in Aged Care using the government subsidized training option(which will be free) or you can pay for yourself. If you do it online, just find a reputable RTO but remember that you'll be required to undertake work placement to demonstrate on-the-job competency. If you elect to do it online, your RTO will send you a competence assessment form/checklist which you'll take to the place where you'll be doing your placement and you'll need to be ticked off by your supervisor as being competent against the different areas covering the units that you will be doing.

If I were you, I would identify the RTO (Registered Training Organization) that you want to train with, give them a call and they should be able to give you in depth info on whether you are eligible for government subsidized training or not. I guess to qualify for government subsidized training, you've to be aged 15-24 years or retrenched. I hope this info will be of help to you and good luck.
