Hi there,
I am a Recruitment Coordinator in the nursing industry and we get a lot of applications from PCA's applying to many of our vacancies because they are desperate for work, but unfortunately, ourselves and I'm sure many of the recruitment agencies out there require people with the relevant qualifications and experience and have good verbal and written communication skills. This is not a rule we make up, but what our clients request from us.
My suggestion if you and your wife are seeking PCA work is to ensure that you first complete the basic qualifications required such as the Cert III in Aged Care, Basic First Aid course and Food handling course.
Then you can either start by volunteering at an aged care facility or you can apply directly to the nursing homes themselves. My advice is to hang in there - it is highly competitive in the PCA world but if you present well, follow up with applications, ask for feedback and apply the feedback than it will take you one step closer to landing that job!
Cheers
