Hello readers , My name is Robert I am currently studying towards the nursing Diploma in Adelaide , I work in Aged Care mainly PM shifts and Night Duty and finding it a bit difficult to find study time. Are there any other people in Adelaide (Northern Subs) with a similar problem who would be interested in forming a study buddy group??

I think this site is great, wish I had found it weeks ago when i first started my Cert III in Aged Care Course... I think that this site is very very intersesting, May be a good suggestion is to pass it on to all our class mates even ones not finding it hard they might be able to help others out or suggest good ways to study etc etc, I don't think I have found a Forum/Blog site intersesting before, well till now I have read so many and notice that some issues that I had people are having them across the board.. Hi everyone, I'm Rach, 36 & have worked in aged care for the past 12 years. I've done my Cert 3 & Cert 4, working primarily as a PCA in a large low care facility (with some relief Supervisor shifts) in NSW. I've just moved to QLD & started working in aged care at a facility which is low care/high care & dementia specific. The pay rates' better but the job duties are way different - I've got heaps of questions & would love some good advice.........I'll post a topic. Looking forward to meeting you all. Rach : )

Hello all My name is Toni, I'm currently working in childcare but have been wanting to do something different for a long while now. I've toyed with the idea of aged care, and have decided that this is what I will do. I enjoy studying, and now that I have finally decided what it is I want to do with myself I am looking forward to getting started. Sending away for correspondence papers this week!

Hi I am Grace from Adelaide I am currently studying my EN div2 with Tafe I will be starting my last semester next week.I cant actually believe that I am nearly finished.I was going to go on next year at Uni for my RN then leading onto being a midwife but I plan to work next year as an EN take a break from study and get out there and NURSE.This has been agood site to visit with others who are studying or are already nurses good to see.

Hello my name is Debi and I am just about to sign up for the Aged Care course for 2010. I live on the sunny coast and was wondering if anyone know of a nursing home that would employ me and do the training in-house if not can anyone tell me who would be the better place to do the course, I am looking at either Tafe which is 6 months fulltime or Cadet which is 15 weeks. I am also working as a bartender and do the night shifts and am concerned about been able to do both - study, assignments, working late. If anyone has any infor for me that would be great. Hewy Lisa aka Molly247, With changing a dressing in an age care facility, usually, the protocol is for an EN or RN to do the re-dressing as there are some basic differences between what to use in packing, a primary dressing or need for a secondary dressing. Its also usually the job of an EN or RN to change the dressing as it would be an opportunity for them to evaluate stages of wound healing. Best to leave the wound covered until an EN or RN can attend to it. If the wound is minor, you can choose to remove the dressing and wash it before covering it lightly with aseptic cover...Good luck on your studies for age care....and most of all enjoy yourselves everyone

Hi all, my names Heather and I`m 42 years old and live in Redcliffe Qld. I have been working in retail for the last 16 years. I have always wanted to do aged care, I have made a big move and resigned from my full time job and enrolled with Hillcourts to do my Certificate III in aged care. I am a bit nervous because it has been along time since I have had to study and just hope I will be able to pull it off and pass. I am so excited to be finally working towards something that I wish I had done years ago but was never game enough to do. So I might need some help on here from time to time.

Hi everyone... my name is Lee-Anne and Im a stay at home 43 year old single Mum... single after a 20 year relationship broke down last June... Both my children, Boy in year 8 and Girl in year 7 are in High School now and I decided it was time to go and do something FOR ME!! Nursing has always been a dream of mine so I took a deep breath and applied for the EN diploma course back in July... it's a long process... anyway, I sat the Vetassess test, got my results... 98% for Literacy and not so good 58% for numeracy... TAFE aren't sending out yays or nays on the EN course until December, so I will just have to wait it out. I'm not overly confident in being accepted though on those results.... so... determined to get back and work in the health sector, I set about implementing my Plan B... Another deep breath and I also applied and interviewed for the Aged Care Cert III and HACC dual certificate at TAFE in Frankston.... I'm waiting as I type on my YAY or NAY on that one... should hear something this week I hope... I am quietly confident this time around and can't wait to hear some good news... wish me luck... and in the meantime... I'd love to hear from anyone else applying at Frankston for the same cert III course or the EN course for that matter... how did you go?... Lx

Hello I'm an aged care nurse and have the best job as I work night shift in a new nursing home called "Seasons" - its more like a community of aged care people but with nurses on stand by if needed. My first few jobs were in nursing homes that should not be allowed to operate, but then again its the way most nursing homes operate - lack of carers to residents ration :) Glad to be out of there, and into a new way of caring for our aged people.
