Hi Guys

so i am a new grad of cert IV in nursing and have just got myself a job at a nursing home as EN. I am so excited to be starting new career and really looking forward to starting career in aged care
When I started this course I never in my wildest dreams wanted to work in aged care however I fell in love with it. I really enjoy looking after them and find them so interesting with their life stories etc.

Is anyone else starting out in aged care of heading straight to acute settings?

Hi,
i am a 2nd year nursing student and when i started my course i heard nothing but negative things about the aged care placement from other students and it kind of broke my heart and i dreaded the day i had to start lol but i never had the same attitide. When i started i absoloutly loved it! i forgot sometimes i wasnt getting payed as i was on placement lol....i enjoyed the learning experience and it really made me feel like i was chosing the right career, what i loved was the difference you can bring into someones life and although you may be working with alot of people whom you may not remeber they will always remeber you because of the care you give. I had alot of respect for the old people and they deserve to be treated with dignity and care i enjoyed chatting with them and indeed their lives where interesting. im glad i learnt the skills necessary to make their lives a little more comfortable.
good luck with your aged care career , they need more enthusiastic people like you
