Hi everyone,

Im starting a new job in Aged Care, and I have limited experience. I'm a RN div 1 in Victoria, and I completed my degree last year and didnt get a graduate year and I needed to get some work asap. In my interview they said they would put me on the shift doing medications and wounds in one wing of the facility, which is done my the Div 2 Med Endorsed, until I get some experience in the Aged Care field, then go onto doing the Registered Nurse Supervisory role in the whole facility. They mentioned that my pay rate (as first base rate as Im just out of uni) is similar and not much more to the rate of the Div 2. I assumed that RN in Aged Care are a higher grade, and I would like someone with more experience to confirm that with me, before I end up being put in charge and only being paid Grade 2 year 1 and not a higher year.

thanks

Leroy

I am in Queensland and look forward to the day we are better recognised in our pay.
I work as a RN in a busy 120 bed Residential Facility for the aged.
My base rate is not yet 30 dollars an hour. We lag behind the southern states but why? We also get LESS THAN Hospital Nurses.
Talking about in the hardest Nursing job in the world nowadays (RN's in Aged Care who by the way continue to leave in their droves), but the most underated for the rewards while feeling pretty underappreciated (by man'ment, and underpaid as well! We remaining in are truly dedicated to our older citizens and have the right
compassion and 'stuff' to truly respect and care for the older people in our facilities.
The clientsl are entering more sick and with more complex medical presentations. We need more understanding and support.
Thank you for listening :)
Irene
