Ok what is the deal here.. When I did my cert in 2009 we were in formed that to work in age care we needed to have this qualification or working towards it. Now I really thought I was working in one of the better age care facility in the south east of Queensland. Now after 12 months into this I have become disappointed. We are classed as PCW. To work as a AIN in the hospital / age care system a cert 3 is not enough regardless on what your educator informs you. You need to have the added on modules. Medicine , Cert 4
Where I work now a person who was employed to work in kitchen/cleaner was asked to work on the floor, now the word is this person classed with the supervisor in kitchen...... And so the story begins.. Now how is it so.. please if someone can explain to me what the deal is. This person has no intetion of wanting to gain cert 3 . My facility did not offer encouragement or sponsorship towards this cert 3 qualification..
One gets the feeling what is the point.I paid for a two day palliative day course, I am constantly educating myself on dementia.. And for what.. Are we going back to the dark ages.. I joined the union.. Yes I got caught up in all the hype of fair pay for PCWs what did we get guys not even a $1 something an hour. What was the fight for $ 24 an hour we knew no way on gods earth we were ever gonna get that. Still we all held on to the dream. I guess I am disillusioned , I thought I was working in one of the better age care facility's
