Hi there, I am considering studying to be a midwife. I am currently living in Bendigo and La Trobe, our university here does not offer a midwife course so I want to apply to do a Bachelor of Nursing and become a registerd nurse and then do a year of distance education through Charles Sturt University. Can someone please tell me how hard it is to get into a general nursing course as a mature student? I am 31, completed my VCE in 1995 with a TER of 67 and have also completed a number of science and health subjects as part of a Naturopath couse I studied but did not complete a few years a go.
Many thanks
Kerry

Hi Krezza. If you have a bit of study behind you then getting in as a mature age student is not that hard IMO. You can increase your chances by doing a STAT test through your states university admission centre or a tertiary prep program through TAFE or perhaps the uni has a entrance program that is similar to the TPP?
UniSA does midwifery externally, but you would have to travel for block study periods and placements....
