Question to Theatre Anaesthetic RNs.
Scenario: official OT close time is 21:00hrs. Hospital has emergency call backs in place ceasars and alike.
I have been an Anaesthetic RN for 10years, everynight in closing theatre down. Emergency OT has always been set up ready for the 0400hr call back, this includes leaving anaesthic machine on and functioning it was how i was trained way back and since becoming a senior its how how teach new OT nurses.
Issue: For reasons unbeknown to me recently less experienced RNs are determining that "its what we do", we fully shut off the anaesthetic machine in the Emergency OT for the night.
I am drawing a blank searching for Anzca standard / OT protocol to show that said shutting down of theatre in an emergency at 0400hrs is putting patients at risk.
Can anyone assist me in finding safe protocol for emergency OT setup? ( this is my opinion - machine should be left on ready to go for the Cat 1 ceasar which you dont actually have time to even get to the hospital for)
Anaesthetic machine shutdown or leave on for Emergency OT overnight.
