I have worked in several nursing homes as an agency nurse and was sent to the nursing home in dandenong. A group of Sri lankan female carers treated me very badly. They did not give me the LIfting machine and when i finally got hold of one didnt bother to help me lift a resident. I also worked afew months ago at Regis Shenley dont go there one Indian Nurse and an africal girl humiliated me and didnt help me with lifting very heavy residents. Afterwards these two carers complained to the management that I was taking a long time to finish my list. Nearly broke my back trying to assist these residents on my own without help from the two female carers. This was the second worst shift in a nursing home.

Can you tell me which is the best nursing homes with a good nurse ratio to work in?

Thank You

Nursing homes have never been choice picks for nursing staff...lousy pay, horrible conditions, no opportunities to improve your clinical skills and especially when you have AINs who have worked there for yonks and have developed a chip o their shoulder, it can be a nightmare.

If you are a registered nurse, then wield your stick!!! I have an AIN tell me whom to shower the other day and I had her put back in her place. Not that I hate AINs, I love them as much because they are part of the team. But as a nurse, you have your responsibilities which an AIN cannot help you with. Whilst I am more than happy to shower a patient, I must first discharge my duties to which I have been trained.

If you are having problems at work, its up to you to manage them, Alternatively it might be a good idea to seek employment elsewhere. Sometimes you cannot fight these ingrates, you'll be wasting time and energy on them instead of focusing on what you needs to do. Never perform lifts and if they are not prepared to help you. Walk away and go straight to management. Its your back that is at stake and will come back to haunt you once you have screwed it over just once. Nursing homes will squeeze blood from you if they can, so there's no such thing as work ratio...just think..the lowest ratio in which they can get away with, that's what they'll do. Its sucks, that's why i left nursing homes.

Thats sad you have had bad expirences with Regis usually they are very good, I heard the ringwood one is really good anyway. As an agency nurse surely you can decline to go to places that you dont like? I hope you can find somewhere nice to work soon maybe try a different field agecare can be a bit depressive.

Aged care can be a very rewarding career option.

If other workers are not working as part of a team, then that is putting you and resident care at risk. I would encourage you to use the complaints mechanisms in the home to make sure the Director of Care is aware of what is going on so action can be taken.
