I just wanted to say hello to all the Enrolled Nurses. I have been an Enrolled Nurse for nearly 21 years and currently work in the Perioperative Nursing field as I hold a Certificate in this area as well as an Orthopaedic Nursing Certificate which I did sometime ago.

I recently completed the Certificate in Sterilising Services and hoping to get into this area one day ? as a Supervisor.

I encouraged other Enrolled Nurses to do other Courses, to keep up with the ever changing world of Medicine and Nursing and be proud in what you do.

Hope to hear from others.

Rick

Absolutely agree with you rickyjohn. Since doing my reregistration through Curtin University I have developed a thirst for more learning and experiences. The new scope of Nursing Practice goes a long way to promote our cause as Enrolled Nurses allowing us to make decisions within that scope realted to our nursing. I am currently working in Haemodialysis, and nearly officially at Advanced Skills Enrolled Nurse level. It is a challenging and fascinating area to work in. Learning skills which you don't learn else where and facing an everchanging landscape of clientele in a Tertiary Hospital setting. I will never again be "just an EN" but proudly state who I am as I am good at my job as 99% of us are and so many of us go unrecognised for the skill level we have as nurses, particularly when having worked in rural and remote areas. Not to mention how long we've been in the job.
So grab every opportunity you can to learn new skills and update old ones, don't be afraid of change and love your job!

Hello Rick,

It was great for me to read your post. I'm currently studying my EN Certificate course externally through Charles Darwin University and hope to have it finished by the end of this year so I can get working. I've worked a s a clerk in hospitals for the past 12 years. I completed first year of the Nursing Degree Program at Griffith Uni in 2001 but for family reasons could not complete it. From 2003-2005 I worked in the Operating theatre of a major hospital as a clerk and I met some great EN's working in Anaesthetics in the OT. I am hoping to do as many courses as I can once I'm registered as an EN to enable me to get into the OT to work.

Cheers

Sheree
