Hi,

I am new here, I am a mother of 4 children, I am a PCA and love my job, but I have always wanted to become an EN- I am going to the information night for intake next year and realise that I have to sit a VETASSESS test, and would greatly appreciate any information on what the test consists of? e.g maths.

I am so worried that I am not going to be smart enough, and fail before I have even begun, I am just hoping that someone can just tell me a little bit about test and course in general,

Thank you (sorry for blabbling on)

HI Steven's wife,

I have no idea about the test you are sitting specifically, but my advice to you is to stay calm and think logically. Provided you don't lose marks put the most logical thing that comes to mind even if you're not sure if it's right for anything you don't know the answer to. I find that these strategies have got me through my exams so far and I tend to do quite well on exams (more so than assignments anyway!)

Good luck with it. I'm sure you'll do well :)

Thank you so much Steph88, I sit my VETASSESS test on the 20th Nov, and I have been told its is just too make sure you are not a complete idiot... hehehe

I am going to take some time to breathe like you said, and relax, and try and concentrate, because this job is about clear and level headed thinking....so I am hoping that I do well

Hi Stevens Wife,

Good luck for your test. I will be taking another vetassess test soon should I decide to apply for my meds (money is the issue).

Anyway I have sat it once before for my Div 2 entry...some 2 and a bit years ago. I found the literacy part easy and the written part easy I just didnt like the maths..its not my strong point. Anyway Its all multiple choice and you have some time to work things out. Not a great deal bu enough if you work through at a steady pace.

If you to www.vetassesstest.com.au you can find a bit of info on it, a sample test and assistance with the numeracy. I reckon you will be fine!!

Thanks Keeshy, I have spoken to one person about the test, and they said that it is not too bad, so I am sure I will breeze through the LIT. Maths is also not my stong point, I am just hoping that they go on more than just the test results :)

And thanks,

Hi Stephen's wife,

I was in a similar situation to you a couple years ago and very scared to go and sit the vetassess, i applied for a number of different TAFE's etc in melbourne so i had to sit a few of those tests. I, like the others who have commented and yourself, do not have math as a strong point! I actually bought an Excel study guide that they use in highschool and went through some math equations before i sat the test, to help remind me of some of the basic principles. I can't remember exactly, but i think it's either year 9 or 10 that the standard of math is in the test. If you phone the TAFE or collage you're applying too, or vetassess they should be able to tell you the level for the math. It helped me though to go through some equations before sitting the test, gave me a bit more confidence going into it.

But i'm sure you'll do fine, from what i remember it's not based on a pass/fail, they assess it in some obscure way - but yes, to basically test that you're capable of completing things in the standard that is required for the course.

Good luck with it!

Rach.
