Hi, I am an EEN and after finishing a few months ago I only just got my registration about a week ago due to having to save up to afford the expense of registration.

I've heard somewhere along the grapevine that the new graduates of the EEN program are now doing the full IV competency rather than just HLTEN519B, is this correct?

I am therefore also looking into doing a phlebotomy course, does anyone know if this will help in the job and for prospective employers? Because at the moment I am looking for a grad job with my course alone as my previous nursing experience. I really can't wait to get into nursing!! Thanks very much!

Hi lovenursing,

Im not sure about the first half of your post, but I can help with the second part.

I graduated EEN a year ago, and am in my final year of BN.  From my experience, a phleb course will not do you any benefit in gaining a job as an EEN.  Only certain hospitals will train EENs to do IV, an will not recognise phleb cert as they will train you 'their' way.  A phleb course is only good if that is what you want to do as a career.  I.E become a phlebotomist, not an EEN.  If you apply for a EEN job and have a phleb cert, I do not think that will give you any better chance than someone without it.  Personally, I would hand deliver your resume to where ever you want to work.  THat is how I got my job, I applied for so many on seek etc and never heard from most of them.  :)
