I too am having trouble understanding just what the NSW Government is doing in regard to the EN courses. There seems to be so many wondering where to go to get training and no answers are forthcoming. Refer the news story in the Mercury last week. I know of a lot of would be EN's who are now doing the AIN course just to get a 'foot in the door' & yet it is advised that this will not have any influence in succeeding to get you into any future EN programs. WE have a nurses shortage & yet the government is sitting on their hands over this which can only result in a bigger gap of nurses in the future. As for the cost, $15,000 is more expensive than the RN course at Uni. I am sure that the Government could have offered the EN course through TAFE, and even without a trainee wage, most would be EN's would have enrolled. At least then the shortage of EN's would have been addressed AND the government would have saved money and lets face it that is what this is all about. The only way to get answers ASAP is for everyone to take the matter up with their State Government member.

I have just applied for a position with Ramsay health to do my Diploma in Nursing (endorsed enrolled nurse) though applications have closed see link below

http://seek.com.au/users/apply/index.ascx?Sequence=30&PageNumber=1&jobid=14836051

I send an email to the Gradplus coordinator of Ramsay health to ask for more information and this is her response

Dear Jeremy You will be in TAFE full time doing either theory or clinical pracs / Monday to friday. The dates for TAFE are not yet finalised but these are the draft dates: 5 weeks in April 09 3 weeks in October 09 4 weeks in February 2010 3 weeks in July 2010 The rest of the time you are doing clinicals in the hospital but it can be part time or full time so long as you complete a total of 874 hours during the 18 month period. When you are doing clinicals on the wards you will get paid at the TEN rate as per the award but while you are in TAFE you will need to take leave without pay. Hope this is of help to you Regards

The only way you will be able to become an EEN in NSW is to complete a diploma in nursing offered at TAFE this course costs $12,500 if you are not employed by someone you will have to participate in practicle unpaid even if I am employed with Ramsay I will have to take unpaid leave for tafe and still pay for the course myself.

Tafe has not released details of the new course as of yet.

The uni of New England is offering an advanced diploma in nursing and this course take two years though it is only offered on campus in Armidale.

Hope this helps
