Can anyone please tell me if I am able to study enrolled Nursing online. I live in Melbourne and I have 4 children with my husband working shift hours. I really want to do the course, but to fit it around family commitments and work is not easy and online would relieve a lot of pressure.

Hi Kelly,

GCIT - Gold Coast TAFE do offer the Diploma of Nursing (Div 2) or Enrolled Nurse course online.  You do have to attend 3 Residential Colleges on the Gold Coast which are 2wk duration during the course but you can do your placement in Melbourne.

I am the same - wanted to get into nursing, but couldn't afford to give up work so I'm completing the course online.  The next course starts 6th August.

Hope this helps

Thankyou for your information. Could you tell me Elaine, how much the course to do online costs and does the Government fund any of it, as I have heard they are subsidising Nursing and aged Care?

Cheers,

Kelly

Kelly,

The Diploma of Nursing costs $15,100 to do online - you can get VET fee relief (i.e. the govt pays your fees upfront and you repay your debt once you are earning a certain amount) I am not sure about subsidies for aged care - you would have to ring GCIT

Hope this helps.

Thanks so much Elaine. Are you starting this course in August this year and how long will it take you and do you know when you will have to spend 2 weeks at the Gold Coast?

cheers,

Kelly,

Yes I am doing this course starting on 6th August.  I am doing it part time as I also work part time and have a family, so it will take me 24mths or you can do it full time over 18mths.  The dates are different for the residential colleges depending on if your doing full time or part time.

Full Time - the dates are:

19th Nov 2012 - 30th Nov 2012 (1st Semester)

24th June 2013 - 5th July 2013 (2nd Semester)

21st Oct 2013 - 25th Oct 2013 (3rd Semester)  the last residential college is only for one week.

For Part Time

14th Jan 2013 - 25th Jan 2013 (1st Semester)

9th Sept 2013 - 20th Sept 2013 (2nd Semester)

3rd March 2014 - 7th March 2014 (3rd Semester)   these residential colleges all take place in Southport and attendance is compulsory.
