Would anyone know if there are any modules to complete for my situation. I am an EEN (hospital trained from the dinosaur years) and I want to be as equal as the Diploma Girls (as in my title only). Currently working in Queensland hospital. Thanks, fellow nurses.

Maybe you could contact your nurses board or the tafe's in your area and ask them?

I also trained in a hospital 1975/6 and last year completed two modules at Nambour TAFE to attain my Medication Endorsement. This course has now been ceased and for a hospital trained EN's to be endorsed it is necessary to complete the full 21 modulaes at TAFE, being awarded the Dip in Nursing. This coursed will give RPL of one full year off the RN under graduate degree in nursing. I will get RPL for my hospital based training of 4 modules, but am required to do the full 3 years of the degree.

I trained in 92 and found out that i now have to do the whole en course again to then get into the 3 month endorsement course. I think it is ridiculous as a couple of years ago i could have easily gotten in but due to children and other study i thought i would do it later. I am competent and even have a school teaching degree but i love nursing more. I have worked with endorsed ens who are dangerous with only 12 months experience and no idea of time management. I am insulted we are not looked at for howwe work but what certificate we have. I also work wiht RNs who trained 30 years ago and have never done any more education and they are not being asked to do their degree, why? i am thinking of applying for the degree at UNE armidale and trying to get some credit for my en. If you do the degree there you get the first year credit if you are endorsed. After completing the second year of this degree you can apply to become an EN with a diploma . then you can opt to do the last year for RN or just work as an EN . I am thinking seriously of this so at least i can update my EN to dipoma. As far as i am concerned its all a money spinner and trying to find cheap "RNs". as a first year teacher i can earn $42 an hour , more than an 8th year RN. but like i said i like nursing more than teaching, its not the money but the education department looks after teachers more than the nurses rego board looks after nurses. l

There is a course currently been offered by Southbank and Gold Caost TAFE's-up-skilling course from EN to Diploma(EEN) I have just enrolled. its $1600 and takes 6-12months-work at your own pace with a 2 week block at TAFE

I'm a hospital trained EEN, I did my Medication Endorsement through the College of Nursing in Sydney. I'm now doing the upgrade to Diploma with the College & will also do the Advanced Diploma in Mental Health next year, also at the college. I didn't have to do the EN course again to enable me to enrol & complete my endorsement, I haven't heard of anybody who has had to do that.

lakshmi, you didn't say if you were hospital or TAFE trained, being hospital trained I had to do a conversion course, which I did in 1995, to have a Cert IV in Enrolled Nursing. TAFE & also the College of Nursing both offered courses combining that conversion course & medication endorsement. As the Endorsement courses will gradually be phased out, I don't know how you can go about doing a conversion course. I'm sure the TAFE upgrade to Diploma has Medication Endorsement incorperated in the upgrade but the College doesn't as they are still running the Endorsement as a seperate course.

I have enquired about this myself and I am currently doing the competence assessment to regain my enrollment. I will then have to upgrade my skils to the diploma of nursing through tafe. I was told any study you have done will be counted as RPL. I know they are doing the course through Tafe at Nambour, Southbank, GOld coast and I think the caboolture campus too. You need to contact them to find out prices etc every campus is different for some reason. this then means you have the diploma of nursing plus the medication endorsement
