Hi guys, from an RN DIV 1 position, do you think it's worth going into dental assisting? I have always wanted dentistry but my parents convinced me into nursing instead because of the opportunities for better work and pay in a foreign country. (I grew up overseas ;) ) Now that there is actually an opportunity to go into something related to dental practice, do you think it's a good idea? Are the stress levels high? :-/
What about the pay? Is it a lucrative job? Does anyone know how much the pay is?
Also would like to venture into Wound and Ostomy Nursing but I don't know how to start. Or if finding a job with it is easy, or if there are opportunities for it around at all?
At the moment I am torn between these two lovers. Would appreciate your thoughts.

These two jobs would be very different - have you tried interviewing people who have these jobs?  As a nurse, you might be able to make connections and be able to shadow someone in wound and ostomy nursing. Try shadowing in person and interviewing a dental assistant to see which one seems better.

Have you been to the dentist? Observed what dental nurses doing and about the pay, I heard not too good and same goes as a dentist itself but not sure about it dont qoute me with that one. I think you need training/study to be an ostomy nurse and at least one ostomy nurse in every hospital so not that in demand. I live in rural city and we have one ostomy nurse to cover that 150 beds hospital and the whole community. Back to the dental nursing, I think not for me as i hate looking to someone else's teeth whole day..lol..just go with RN as theres a lot of options out there like community nursing after few years experienced in hospital. well, goodluck and hope u can make up ur mind.

Oh hey guys, sorry I fell off the planet. Thank you for the responses. Truly appreciate it. Just an update, I managed to get into GP Nursing and despite the low pay, I am enjoying it. I also hurt my back a bit doing bedside care in one of my nursing agency shifts so that pretty much discouraged me to pursue acute nursing. I have part time shifts in a wound/hyperbaric centre and it's absolutely amazing. I never thought I'd enjoy staring at chronic ulcers as much as I do now. haha. Cheers!
