I did my B. Nursing at Sydney Uni, and finished in 1994. I worked as an RN until 2000, and then moved to the USA, where I promptly gave up my career and did something else, and let my registration lapse.

Does anyone have any experience/know about getting your RN registration back after some years away? It looks as though you have to be currently registered to participate in any kind of refresher programs...surely those nurses who have been out 20 years and go back haven't been paying their registration all these years?! After reading the finger wagging "Well, we might not give it back" tone on the NSW Registration Board website, I'm thinking things are a bit dire!

Any info greatly appreciated...ta muchly. :-)

Hi GinnieB, I have just gone back to nursing after a break of 15 years, so I had to go to Uni and get my Bachelors (I had a diploma only)... Because I had been out over 10 years, I had to go to Uni... However there were a few girls on my ward who had been out for between 5 and 10 years and they had to do a Re-entry course which consisted of some study days and 40 days unpaid shifts... This link is regarding the re-entry and refresher programs at Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide... http://www.flinders.sa.gov.au/nursing/pages/education/AAT_PGBC_z/ So perhaps have a look at the website for the hospital you are looking at, to see if they have info about their programs... The courses are free and there are government bonuses at the moment to help you out... Megan
