Hi there ! Rest assured that there are significent nurse shortages throughout the U.K. in most areas of nursing,so you won't have any problems getting work once you've registered with the UKCC nursing body. You don't say what city/town in Britain you're planning on working at,but generally the cost of living in the south of England is expensive to say the least.
I strongly suggest you contact one of the nursing agencies here in Australia who deal with supplying nurses for the U.K market and let them do the donkey work in getting you a U.K.work visa, fixing you up with a job on arrival, answering any questions ,etc...,They may also pay for your airfare once you've signed up with them but check the conditions. Also it may be a good idea to get a job that has accomodation included as that is certainly an expensive item and can drain you money VERY quickly! I actually know of someone who worked in the U.K. as a companian to a (rich) elderly lady who had light, mostly non nursing duties i.e.cooking meals, taking her to shops,etc..,for which she got a reasonable wage, free meals,a free flat, plus use of a car in her free time. After a few weeks of the job she went on holiday to europe and got a similar post on her return. It beats working in the N.H.S. hospitals ! The A.&.E.departments there have become like war zones what with drug overdoses, illegal immgrants demanding treatment, plus violence towards hospital staff. Not my cup of tea I must admit.
I hope this helps you,Good luck!
