Scary stuff - students propping up the health system?

Check

P.S. As an ex hospital based EN I feel the situation has changed - we are at much more legal risk, and patients in hospital are much more acute ie ppl are often discharged home days earlier than they used to be, maybe because there are not enough hospital beds available or the nurses to look after them...

Hi tropicana,

What The???????????? "Trainee nurses will provide immediate relief to hospitals suffering severe staff shortages." after how much training I wonder. are patients going to be "guinea Pigs" Sometimes I thought it might be a good idea, the reason being that the newbies get a good idea about hands on nursing, getting to know the patients/residents, not just whatever illnesses they have. Bed pans, cleaning bottoms etc etc. And whether they actually want nursing as a career. My "What the" maybe the bad idea. Anywho lets see what eventuates.

I haven't referred to the sites, Tropicana. I have been attracted here by the heading of hosp based training.
What a shame it isn't and hasn't been that way the whole time. In the 'good ole days' and I must say before
my RN time, there WAS hospital based training and pay. I was a EN in NZ doing this in 1984. Anyway, one
gets to learn ON THE JOB. Half the battle with nursing is knowing how to communicate, how to see the whole
picture, how to discern with practice that something isn't right. You can't become a good nurse without 'hands
on'. That is for any job but ESPECIALLY in nursing, one must be in the presence of patients to truly become
'good at it' and be compassionate caring.
