Hello, I am enrolled in a nursing program with CQU this year. As I have a newborn baby, I enrolled externally to study via flex. I was feeling quite confident, as I have a really supportive husband and I am not going to be working... but the program co-ordinator has mentioned twice now [once via email, and again on the phone] that I should reduce my study load.

She said that the attrition rate for mature students that try to study externally with a full load was really high and that i should reconsider my load.

I am now starting to feel quite apprehensive about my study load and would love to hear from anyone that has studied flex with a full load.

I look forward to hearing from any of you,
Tracey

Hi Tracey,

I also started with CQU this year. I've got 3 kids but I'm only studying 2 subjects per semester. I find that is quite manageable.

I don't think I would be able to juggle 4 subjects as I also work full time. Good Luck with it. Maybe we'll see you at res school in April (Noosa).

Hi Domino and Dave, I decided to drop one of the subjects when I heard that it was going to be offered over spring/summer. i am pleased that I did as it is my first time at university, and I have not studied at all in over 30 years. Now that I have eased my way into though, I would be confident to take on a full load next term and beyond.

You do need to be self disciplined though, so beware of that.

Dave, I am doing my res in Rocky, as that is where I live. But I may see you on the boards some time,

Take care,

Tracey

Hi Tracey,
That’s great to hear your going so well. My goal is to become an RN by the time my kids (that I haven’t started having yet, planning for next year) are ready for school. I have always wanted to do nursing but paying for the mortgage and working full time has made it impossible. As much as I think having kids won’t leave me with much time it’s great to know that I will probably have time to study. All the best!,
Domino.

hey all,
I was just wondering how you were finding CQU external? I'm starting the lift program in Jan and hoping to do the Bnurs in 2012 as my eldest will be starting school, so i'll only have my daughter home with me. Which i think part time will suit me just fine until she statrs school as well. I live in WA and and worried about placements? Are you finding that your placements are as local as possible? Would love to hear from you all.

Hi Jay,

I did the LIFT program with CQU last year. It's great for getting you into the mode for study.

I'm doing the B Nursing with CQU now and enjoying it. I'm doing a part-time load so only 2 subjects per semester. I don't think I could manage any more than that. The good thing is they offer 3rd semester subjects so you can move things along a bit quicker if you like. Also you can do cross institutional study with other unis.

I wouldn't worry about the placements in WA. They offer WA placements. I am doing my first placement in 2012 so I can't give you much advice.

If you have any more questions just ask.

Hi Dave,
I'm just curious how your going with your course? I'd like to know since your doing the course part time (as i will be too) are the residential school days only once a year, or the same as full time students?
I hope everything is going great for you!
