Is anyone else out there attending interviews for the next few weeks for their first preference hospital?
I am a unique situation in that I graduated back in 2008 (from the Overseas Qualified Nurses Program where I was assessed to be fit to be a registered nurse in NSW) but I actually graduated overseas. I am a new grad then as well then we immediately migrated to Australia. Anyways, I was too late to apply for any new grad programs for the following year and couldn't get work anywhere else as I don't have local experience. I threw in the towel and basically found work in a completely different field. Three years on, I am realizing that Nursing is where my heart is and I've decided to go back. AHPRA said I was still considered a "New Grad" because I never practiced after getting my initial registration. I tried going into Nurses Re-Connect program in NSW but was told I didn't fit the criteria (maybe because I don't have previous clinical experience?) so I am applying for the New Grad Program instead. I am in a pickle as I don't have any current clinical references (within 6 months of applying) and I am losing all hope again. Can anybody give me some advice? My upcoming interview is for Cumberland Hospital (mental health) btw and if anyone can give me tips I would be grateful as well.
