Hi all!

I have currently enrolled in bachelor of nursing via distance education through Central Qld university. I have chosen to do it full time, (4 subjects for term 1) and I am also currently working 35 hours a week as a carer. I do have a fair bit of down time at work, and I have 6 days off a fortnight. Is there anyone else who has tackled this course full time (3 years) whilst working?

Depends a lot if you have family responsibilities to take care of (such as children and elderly) and are you ready for the little to close to non social life for the next 3 years. I have a friend who have a comparable amount of workload.

He have 2 kids (both less than 10), do part time work and full time studies. (Caring for 2 kids is close to full time studying, not to mention his wife divorced him.) He struggled for 3 years straight and constantly asked for extension of deadlines and have thoughts of giving up several times along the way. He managed to persevere through the hardship, graduate and score a graduate job.

In short, it takes a lot of discipline and good time management through your 3 years. Do you think you are ready?

Hi Roxanne! I am enrolled in B Nursing but have decided to do my first year on a reduced study load, only two subjects per semester. At my orientation day they were very blunt each unit is rpughly 10hours work per week and not to take on paid work that goes over about 16hrs per week. Not sure what other responsibilities you might be juggling but try out full time and if it's too much drop a subject. You have until census date, check your uni for the date and how to drop down if you need to. Good luck!!
