Hi All,

I just got accepted into a course that leads to a DIV 2 Traineeship. Yay! I just have a few questions for those who have been through Apprenticeships Plus

1. How hard is it to be accepted into the Traineeship work placement and therefore a job for the traineeship?
2. How many hours do you guys work? Is it 4 days a week or is the work hard to come by?
3. How bad is the hourly rate? I want to budget early so I don't have to live on the edge of poverty too badly.

I'm planning to work until my feet bleed if it means getting placement.

It was insinuated that the placement will be your future employer, as they are the ones who review your work and decide if you are suitable for a position in the Aged Care Facility.

So I'll be seeing you on Tuesday then I suppose, lol

Hi,

I am currently in the Apprenticeship plus Div 2 Traineeship, glad to help with some info! Just note that things do change so don't take everything I have said as gospel. They may have changed things in the last 6 months!

Q 1) It all depends on where you live/what kind of facility it is and how flexible you are with regards to the placement. If they see you to be a hard working person with initiave then they will most likely take you on. There were a few from my class that didn't get placements for various reasons.

Q2) Minimum hours is 15 hours per week and that is all I work but this is by choice. I have small children and don't want to work more than that. You really should be as flexible as possible and accept most shifts where you can. After a few months you make be able to slip into a permanent shift o the roster so you have some consistency with working days. Many from my class work 4 days a week but tey may be 2 short shifts and two long. The more flexible you are they more they will ask you.

Q3) It depends how old you are, there are different rates for school leavers and students but the adult training wage is $13 something an hour for the first year plus shift and weekend work penalties where applicable. Just remember why you are doing this in the first place, it should not be for the money, the money is just a plus along with drastically reduced University fees. I am still out of pocket doing theis traineeship. I would be much better off with family tax benefits and to stay at home but this is my dream.

You do three weeks theory in class and then 3 weeks in a facility (10 days over three weeks). If you are sucessful and they offer you a traineeship you will pretty much just continue to work at the facility. You may have a week or two break so they can fit you in the roster.

Just remember that Nursing is a professional career. You must act professional at all times - even in class. It is noticed when you are late, not putting in effort or not having the right attitude.

I hope this hasn't scared you off! It is a wonderful opportunity which is so hard to come by. I absolutely love it so far!

All the best! I am happy to help if you have other questions!

Cheers

Melissa

Well I'd work a double christmas shift if it got me on the permanent roster (for free), I suppose that says something, lol
When a nursing career popped into my head earlier this year, it stuck like crazy glue. When I went for the interviews they actually noticed how determined I was to get a traineeship, and when it was taking ages to get the formal acceptance I was calling them like crazy - I reckon I was the first person they called, just to stop me calling again, lol.

I can understand the need to be super professional in the theory class. I wouldn't worry about that with me, I've worked in a Credit Union for 4 years so I don't know how to be anything other than friendly and professional these days.
Got to love returning to study as a mature age student, and I suppose the lecturers do too, lol.

I actually got my score on the letter from VETASSESS.
Mind you, I did the test two weeks before my A+ test at a different Institution - that was where I heard about A+, from a lady who was also taking the test.

I didn't take the test at A+, because my VETASSESS results were more than sufficient, but was it easier than the VETASSESS test or about the same?

The A+ test was quite easy. But if you are sucessful at that then you need to sit another at ACU which is harder. We didn't do vetassess tests as apparantly the ACU test is harder than vetassess.

We never found out our marks either which was a bummer!
