Maybe it was a bit rash of me, but i have had enough...we still do not know if we hve got in or not this is the email, chances are after this email they will not let me in anyway, but at least i got it off my chest! and will apply to other places in the new year :)
Hello,
I was wondering when and if we are going to be getting our letters?
I have asked via email previously as well, and explained that i need to know as i have to arrange my work roster accordingly.
I must say that this has been such a stressful experience and i feel as though my whole life is in limbo.
All i wanted to do was become a nurse, and then eventually become a midwife.
I have sat the test and did everything that was required of me.
Every institute in Australia has replied to their prospective students at least 2 weeks ago.
I have a life that i have to arrange in accordance to the study load if i am successful, the course starts on the 20th of July and i still do not know if i am in or not much less arrange anything.
The only reason i applied via VU was because i spoke to a very nice lady called Trish Johnston within VU who was at The Age Library in the Hume region and she referred me to this nursing course, i believe she is from the VU marketing team.
I do not understand what is taking so long, and the lack of information being given is disheartening as well.
I would like to know if i have been successful or not, and at this stage it does not even matter if i have not even got in because the stress of the whole thing has made me question if i want to study at VU anyway, and the lack of organisation..if the application process is this stressful how will the entire course be?
Is the course even going to run? Kind Regards hehehehe

Just a question - did you check when you sent off your application about the dates that offers would be made? I currently have an application with CDU for mid year entry. The closing date was 12 June and first round offers are not released until tomorrow evening and final round are released on the 15th. Classes also start on the 20th.

Hi Mopples, To answer your question yes we were told that by the 1st of July we would know for sure. It is now a week later and still no sign. What is upsetting is not the waiting so much anymore, i have gotten used to it, it is the lack of information and no one knowing what is going on at the campus or when we will know. If they sent out emails, or put like a note on the website saying why it was taking so long and that by such and such a date we should have ironed out the problems and let everyone know the outcome..etc i do not think anyone would care and accept that these things happen apparently they are getting at least 50 calls a day, people going beserk and demanding to know etc. cheers nalan

Hey nalan, I really sympathise with you so much! When I applied with Chisholm it took 8 weeks to hear if I got in or not, which I didn't! The waiting is hideous! I will I admit whilst I was waiting to hear from Chisholm I applied to do Div 2 with another provider because I had a feeling my exam score wouldn't be high enough for Chisholm and during those 8 weeks I applied at Healthtrain , sat their exam , went for an interview , received a letter offering me a place , accepted and paid my deposit!! all this before I heard a word from Chisholm! I too felt like my life was on hold and I was pissed it took so long as I have a family to work around too! Anyway my point is I am so glad I ended up applying somewhere else and not putting all my eggs in one basket as at the end of the day you have to look after you and you can't wait around for anybody else! I also realised if Chisholm couldn't show some respect to the fact I have a life then I don't want to train with them anyway! So good on you Nalan for sticking up for yourself and other applicants also in your position. It is time for these big organizations to realise we are people not just an application number. I truly hope you get the response you are after with your email and if all doesn't go well just know there are other options and you will get there, don't give up on being a nurse! All the best Megan

Hi Nalan, I also applied VU only, and I just got a reply from them today, unfortunately I didn't get in. It says they have too many applicants and much less positions. It also says they will contact me when the next intake is open. I only decided to be a nurse a month ago, and did everything in a hurry. I got 36/40,36/40 for my vetassess. I'm 28 years old and don't have any previous experience related to nursing, maybe it's too late to start something totally different. I really want this but I don't know if I should keep trying. Wish you all the best Nalan.

Hi Megan i knew you would understand why i had to do this, like i said before i had just had enough. It is not so much the waiting anymore it is the lack of communication. That email probably means they will not take me in, but i just had to voice my displeasure, especially since that lady from the marketing team was the only reason i applied to VU and VU only. But yeah i am glad you have got in! and will be starting soon, i am so happy for you...at least some of us know where they are heading! lol Dovely honey...my math score was lower, 28/40 but my literacy was 40/40 so if you did not get in i doubt i would have, based on the score, yours is higher than mine... If being a nurse is what you want, then don't be disheartened by the VU experience. There are other places that are far more organised and value you as a nursing student.. so in September or wehn applications are open for 2010 start applying again to anywhere you can.. i guess..that is what i will most likely do as well good luck ! xoxo

Good work nalan hehe.. Bout time somebody voiced their disappointment in the tafes, I see so many stories on here about people waiting... and waiting.... and....................... waiting lol... But as u said... u have a life to organise... it shouldnt take 2 months to sort out who is in and who isnt. Anywayz i hope you don't let your bad vu experience put you off nursing there are PLENTY of other schools. All the best

Hi Nalan, I feel for you. I also took the vetasses test last month. after about a week they called me for an interview. I then asked the person if I pass the test and why are they calling me for interview so soon. She told me that they are conducting the interview soon so that they can decide as soon as possible if I can get in. I was also told by the 2 teacher/Interviewer that we will received a letter of offer or rejection letter by the 1st of July. Until now I haven't received anything from them. I got an sms message last week though, saying they have not finalised everthing yet and asking me to be patient. They just said they will advice me as soon as possible. Every single day i run to check my post box but nothing. knowing you got a high score in vetasses and also the other girl who got 36/40 didn't get in, I'm losing hope because I only got 28/40 and 31/40 score. Anyway, goodluck to us. Hopefully by early neext week we'll get the result.

Nalan & rox, No news is good news. You haven't got a reply probably means they are still considering you. At the end of the day I don't think the selection is fully based on vetassess score. I will try more places next time, but i guess by then my vetassess will be expired and I have to do it again.

Hi guys thanks for your support! Rox i thought my score was low, literacy i aced, but then i have always been very good at literacy ( not that you would guess from the way i type on this forum lol) but math has always been my weakness, and sure enough the math score was what brought down my overall percentage.. Dovely is right though, no news might be good news , because i spoke to some lovely girl at VU today and she was so helpful and understanding. She actually gave me information and informed me that, if you have not got a letter yet, it either means you have got in OR that you will be on a waiting list. So if anyone drops out in the first 4 weeks, you might get offered a place. She also mentioned that they consider the interview session we had as well as the vetassess so it is not just based on score. i won't say i will cross my fingers cause i am going to get dislocated fingers from crossing them so long :P nalan

Good luck with your application! There are always more places offered at the start of the year, so if you don't get in now, don't get disheartened!

I am impressed that you sent this email to VU and think it was very well put.
I am currently studying cert IV nursing at VU part time and to be honest they are no more organised in their classes than they are in the application process.
We are currently on school holidays and meant to start backon wednesday, we have NO timetable for this term and there is a rumour they are extending the holiday by another week..... I have been trying to contact them to confirm when we are starting back but have been unable to get thru. I am loving the course dont get me wrong, the teachers are all really nice but it is UNORGANISED. You need to be very patient and willing to do a lot of work in your own time as some of the stuff we are provided seems a little less than desired. I hope you do get a place and for those who didnt, keep trying. Its well worth it. I am 29 mother of 2 and have worked in customer servicefor 10 years. Nursing is a HUGE change but I can see I am really going to love it. I wish you all luck

Nalan, I know it must be impossible to even think that you will ever get that far, but think of the people you will be able to help once you are in a Hospital down the track some day ? Many a great person has had huge barriers to try and stop them. Keep it up.
