Hi all,

Would love someone to set me straight. Am looking into studying the div2 nursing course for next year and have been told by Box Hill Tafe that the course is $10,500! I have it in my head that you can't get hecs (I know the name has changed but can't remember the new name) for a tafe course but can't imagine that everyone has a lazy $10,000 sitting around just waiting to do a course? Also I have read on other posts, people talking about their courses only costing $1100 and talking about the difference between tafe courses and privately run courses?

I'm just not sure who to ask about all of this, so would greatly appreciate some advice.

Tia

Hey, it all comes down to government funding. Most tafes offer funded places which are 1100 for you and then the govt make up the rest for the school. Some private RTO's offer this too.. like my school 'health train'. You just need to make sure that where you apply they are offering places that are government funded. It's not upto the school its upto the govt as to how many student places will be govt funded. Hope this is some help.

Hi there i saw a tafe plus course priced at 10,500 too. I looked into it and its that expensive because its a fast track course of 18 weeks. Great if you want to finish the course alot sooner, im thinking about it because i have a mortgage to pay and cant study full time for an entire yr or 2 yrs part time. hope that helps

To get to become an enrolled nurse now in nsw there are 2 ways

1. Get one of the 200 scholarship places to study through TAFE( yay i got a place!)

2. Pay 10,000 grand

over here in Adelaide the Tafe's do not charge $10000 that is just riduclous you can get scholarships to help you pay fee's and there is a capping of about $1100 I am on my last semester and all up I have paid mind you with concession rates around $3500 the private trainig providers might charge you the $10000 but I dont think Tafe would unless state by state it is different but $10000 tht is just ridiculous Gracie in Adelaide

Hi Shazby,

I'm currently studying at Box Hill, and NO WAY does it cost that much!

Mid year intake isn't funded, which costs the amount you quoted.

Feb intake is $1100 ish, or with a Health Care Card drops down to around $350, which you can deffer.

Ring 92869106 and ask to speak to Michelle Hendrix. She is gorgeous and will be able to help you!

hi,

ive previously looked into box hill tafe and also have always found that they werent govt funded, interesting however that the person posting above this one says only the mid year intake ISNT govt funded, so its definitely worth calling box hill to clarify.

generally, youll find that basically alot of private training org's arent always govt funded and therefore are very expensive. however some (as others have mentioned) do at times get some funding.

other tafes you can try which usually have the govt funded places are RMIT, Kangan, VUT, Holmesglen. depends of where your prepared to travel but i think theres basically at least one TAFE in each of the northern, southern, eastern and western suburbs of Melb that offer govt funded places.
