I am looking for some advice. I am wanting to become a paramedic and I am looking at doing a nursing course at tafe to get me into a related field and get some experience. I don't want to be doing toileting or showering of patients, is this unrealistic though?. What does an acute care ain do?, as currently this is a course I am looking into.

Would love some advice!.

Hi there,

I am also new to nursing, but showering and toileting patients is a reality. I am not to sure about the acute care course though. I know doing a uni RN nursing course is better, as you could specialise in an area such as emergency or surgery, which would be pretty close to paramedics, and you work closely with them. But then again, it would be just as easy to do a paramedics course at uni.

hope i've helped!

:D

An acute care AIN holds the same qualification as an aged care AIN basically they are both at a certificate III low level nursing care needs. I suggest that if you do not like the showerein/toileting aspect of nursing this course would not be suitable for you and perhaps you may want to look into becoming a registered nurse to have a bit more variety. As a nurse you will have to give someone a shower and take someone to the bathroom however if this is a big concern for you a career in becoming an ambo may well be suited for you.
Good Luck with your studies and all the best!!
