Hi Megan,
I sat my test in December and recently offered a place to my course. My best advice is to use their sample test and if you are fine wth that you should do fine as they were pretty much the same questions using different examples. Others have suggested the real thing was harder but I didnt really think so. Before I sat it I didnt realise there would be the essay component but that is only marked as satisfactory or not (no score as such) so you should be fine with that (if you can look up some brief info on essay layout, although only 1 page answer was required based on an article they gave you). I personally enjoy maths and got higher on that than the literacy (39/40 for maths and 36/40 for literacy), however it has been 11 years since I completed year 12 and mainly been in customer service roles since so I havent always been able to use it. The practice questions definitely helped - I know I wouldnt have got those results if I didnt use that.
Most importantly, READ EVERYTHING FULLY AND SLOWLY and dont assume the answer without doing your workings out, then look at the options (5 multiple choice to choose from) and mark your answer. Also, no calculators allowed. If you are really unsure dont waste time and go to the next question and come back at the end (just make sure you do the marking sheet correctly if you skip a question). You will always be able to eliminate some answers quickly even if you dont know correct answer so that will make the odds better if you are guessing. I think the test counts for a bit as I assume my results were quite good as I didnt have to do an interview, however others have had different experiences so it really depends on whose offering the course and demand, etc, but I think initially it may be based on the test then any vacant spots after that initial intake will depend on interview. I only booked my test and did practice questions 2 days before so I wish you all the luck. I start my course next Monday.

Hi Belinda, thanks heaps for replying! Your advice was great and I feel a lot better about the test. I think the hardest part is not knowing what to study up on exactly . I'm terrified there will be something on there I didn't cover! Anyway I'll keep revising and just do the best I can! Megan

I just sat the vetassess test for meds last week. I can advise you also to read slowly and carefully..take your time and dont get stuck on one thing too long. Practice and revise your fractions, fractions fractions!! Thats a big one. Knowing how to convert measurements (grams to milligrams). If you can google nursing calculations on the net and have a look at how to do some basic med math that will help too. There were some really easy questions on basic addition and mulitplication too. Some were so easy i thought about them longer cos i didnt think it seemed right lol There was a mixture of lots of different things really so just use common sense. Things like graphs and pie charts. Its really not that bad. I made sure i revised basic med math and fractions and that sort of thing before I sat it. You will be fine and good luck.

Hi Keeshy, Thanks for your advice, I think I've pretty much been studying up on all the areas you mentioned incl. drug calcs. Just re/ the graphs I haven't really looked much at them, were they pretty much just standard graphs? Also was there anything on the test where you went oh no I didn't look at that!? Some days I feel really confident then the next I think what if I've forgotten to study up on something! I guess I just need to relax and stop stressing!! Anyway any additional info would be fantastic! Megan

I stressed too but I went in very prepared and I really think it helped. Knowing how to work out fractions for both normal equations and for medication calculations was a big advantage. As fo the graphs they were fairly simple. They would ask a question and tell you which graph would be the most accurate answer or show a graph and ask which percentage was which. There were only 3 of those questions and they were pretty straightforward. The vetassess websites sample test you can download was a good guide. I was worried it would be much harder than that but really it wasnt. The one they have on the website you dont have to download is easier but the one you can download (10 literacy samples and 10 numeracy samples) is pretty indicative of what you can expect. Im a big stresshead esp when it came to math but I really felt prepared and while I probably didnt get an outstanding 100% I think I would have done well enough. Something else we were told after the exam by the facility itself was that they dont look as much at the math result as they do the numeracy. This particular TAFE has math tutors that are avaiable to help the students so even if you only get 15 out of 40 for maths they will still take you providing your literacy components are done well. They want to know you have the basic skills with literacy and english cos they will help with math. Dont know if thats all places but you can enquire at the TAFE you are looking at. Good luck

Thanks Keeshy, I think I'm going to do okay. I've been working at my maths really hard. I've had a look at the vetassess sample test and the Charles Sturt Uni website and can do all of those exercises easily and have had practice with other websites. I don't seem to be getting stuck on anything in particular now, fingers crossed!! I actually just want to get it out of the way now and hope I get into the course! It's all such a long process! Thanks heaps for your advice, I know it's helped me to just chill and trust in myself! How long until you get your results? I hope you do well! Megan

Hi Bec, I sat my entrance exam for ChisholmTafe about 5 weeks ago. I too was really nervous about the maths as it's not my strongest subject!! Anyway the exam covers things like fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio, graphs, metric conversions and a little bit of algebra (where you need to find x). Plus things like basic addition, subtraction etc..There are also a couple of problems involving drug calculations. All of this can be found on the internet to practice. Vetassess also have a sample exam on their website which you could do and it gives you a little bit of an idea how it's all set out etc..Some of the websites i used were Charles Sturt Uni maths for nurses, Flinders nursing and midwifery site and I pretty much googled anything and everything that covered all the above. I hope this helps some! Megan

Hey Sarbear, I can't remember exactly if there was a lot of fraction/percentage conversions but I would definitely cover it. Every mark counts so try and revise as much as you can. ( metric conversion, fractions, decimals, percent, ratio, basic algebra and drug calcs. ) Time goes really fast so don't spend too much time on each question. There are 40 maths questions to do in 30 mins!! Good Luck on Friday!!! Megan

H i have just joined this site. after many speculations as to what i should be doing to upgrade my skills all the tafe and universities replied i should do div 2
now i here that div 2 is just like pca work with more paper work and is now abolished in Chisholm Tafe as they see it as a waste of time.
The big intake of at Moorabbin tafe is only because it has it still going and so called popular mmmmmmmm i wonder why money i suppose?
I have done the test before just study NORMAL MATHS percentages fractions decimals drug calculaitons commen sense addtion problem solving dont waste time on question you dont understand because you have a limited time on everything how you would like to treated if you were an fragile elderly
they give you a specific time on each section of the test you do and they time you its like start and pens down its sooooooo serious be careful not to touch or open the envelopes given.
It is nerve racking you cant slow down on everything and you have just enough time to do 2 essays multiple questions and an incident report
eg how in your version or perspective you saw an incident and have to explain it which you all know lol
so nice neat writing essay format spelling punctuation is all taken to consideration.
one or two questions from the sample test are on the actual test that doesn't finish there if you pass the test you also have to pass the interview you only then ARE accepted to the div2 nursing
so why do div2 nursing when you can go and do bachelor of nursing at chilsom and save save alot of money as they have now abolished div 2 nursing
for credit how much credit can one take into consideration if you fail how far can div2 open all aspect of doors for opportunities I just beleive we are all one and should concentrate on looking after residents and not the money side of it the shit i see it makes sick to my stomache I just want to take them all home and look after them.Hey thats life we say at least they get fed and changed and washed.!!!!! I wot even go there.
We PCA personal are working and its hard dont be ethnical and think i will be the boss you are a PCA when one isn't absent its a whole new world when you become a div 2 you are your own responsibility no back up no mistakes or sorry and short cuts .oh by the way i will be going for my vet assess test on tuesday i now realise it is accepted for 6 months now so you don't have to do it over and over again. Skills plus helps financially and health train is the cheapest i have heard so far and i know holmsglen is helpful also so study dont worry its all common sense I see they have more vacancies for div 2 everywhere even in Dubai thats where the money is girls/boys go for it its on a contract basis for 1 yr make money have the car and the house everything is paid for you only have to work. all expenses paid by the way and no they are not all Muslims over there.

I would love to see a PCA worker that can speak proper english I dont know how the residents cope with all the accents and when the residents cant understand the PCA have to do their jobs right so the elderly are constantly interpreted or forced to do things they do not understand please employ people who have excellent English as this causes problems amongst staff members as well. Lack of communications is a result of one resident death.
No matter how hard you try if you are not a maths person you will fail. My English or maths isn't that great either its good to believe in yourself
I say GO FOR IT AND DO YOUR BEST DO IT FOR YOU BECAUSE YOU WANT IT NOT FOR ANYONE ELSE.
I was taught things so wrongly i want to the div2 so i can learn it properly and believe me i have a certIII and
Never saw a sliding sheet no ra portable bath did any paperwork they use and abuse PCA workers wake up Australia we are getting underpaid companies employ you if you volunteer working for nothing until they decide its ok so speak up or leave dont put up with crap and low wages my daughter made more money then i did she was fifiteen when job training via agency 14 dollars an hour plus sat and sun same rate applied. Shame Shame
im disappointed the PCA work feild....... will it ever change no one cares once they have their certificates. Everyone has there way of working hope its the right way we all know no one does but we find excuses when we are caught at fault. Its amazing what you pick up. PCA still work on their own with lifting machines. OHS where are you?????Hurrying along to do 3 or 4 patients b4 breakfast or lunch.
Australia golden opportunity for certificates who abides by them i dont know?
Does anyone wear the bloody gloves hope they don't run out of them.
ARE dentures being washed / men shaved
GOSSIP HOW MUCH CAN ONE TAKE OF IT LOL OMG The Smell / vomit/ mucus / diarrhea/uniary infections/Abuse/Violence?
any way take care alll
good luck with your careers ARE YOU READY?????????????? GOOOD LUUUUCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKK.

Hello people i just did the test today...it is not as bad as you may think, not easy..it makes you think ( which is what it is supposed to do) but not rocket science either. Funnily enough the literacy side made me sweat more than the numeracy! The math is not hard, and it is mostly multiple choice so you can more or less deduce the correct answer just by using common sense. Practice fractions mostly.. Another thing, there is more than one Vetassess test so the test i got may be different from what you will get obviously..they alternate the test papers so the person sitting next to you gets a different test to you it eliminates copying ..fair call anyhow good luck! i think the worst bit is waiting for your results!

How exicited everyone is omg Its a test and you have to do it no doubt about that What is vetasses any way who are they to judge what one is cabilility Where were they when people are attaining their PCA OMG give me a break And what happens to the people who pay in full to get these course from overseas do they know how to spell and write an incident oh well we will just push that aside wont we cause they pay and some get funded. Actually noone even dares goes into their world. because they are first in line then we australians are next.......oi oi oi bloody yippy yay yeah true blue aussies. Nalan turkmusun selamlar?Neyse For maths solutions try mca online or tutor .com or even yr 7 maths book All members of nurses are all complaining of STRESS is everyone doing their job? I see everyday how people slack off and do practically nothing. Leave the rest of the work to others and when they complain its an issue to be resolved amongst each other. oh yeah the blame part tops it all doesnt it I am sick off injustice in the system and would divsion 2 make any difference in our way of working. Thats why most have gone agency work gods its the easiest money anyone can make. some just dont do anyting at all. and their reports are fantastic written more money please. lol Its a bloody joke something should be done before someone dies
