And I am stressing. Maths has never been my strong point and I don't know where to start. Its been 16 years since I left high school. I have been a stay at home mum to our 3 daughters aged 10, 9 and 7. If anyone can offer advice, I would really appreciate it.

Howdy,

This thread: http://www.nursecentral.com.au/Forums/Nursing-General/Enrolled-Nursing/Vetassess-exam

has some good advice and descriptions of what to expect.

The maths is not hard but you do need to keep an eye on the time. If you are not sure on a question then probably best to move on and come back to it. The sample questions on the vetassess website are a good guide as to the style and content but I would say the exam is just a little bit harder.

Good luck with it :) Where do you hope to study?

Cheers,

Ian.

as Ian said above, biggest issue with the whole vetassess exam is definitely watching your time.
i passed all the sections, 40/40 for literacy and 26/40 for the maths...not a great score for the maths..but a pass at least!
i managed to answer all the questions. but only bcos i realised i was running out of time. so i quickly spent the last few minutes going over and answering all the 'easy' questions that i knew id get right..and then with some others that really required some thinking about..i just picked any answer!! sounds silly.. but i figured better to get the easy ones right, than try and answer hard ones that were taking up more time, and then possibly get them wrong. and in the end i passed so i think i made the right decision.

someone else i know failed the maths part...and its basically bcos she didnt answer the last 20 questions. she got all caught up in trying to answer some of the harder questions and they just took her too long. shes no worse than me at maths, i just handled the time better than she did.

Hullo everyone, thank you for such wonderful information. I am sitting my vetassess tomorrow and your discussions helped heaps. thanks megan for Charles Sturt Uni site. I got the nursing calculations and it was very helpful. I also went to my local Tafe library and got a nursing calculation book out. It was very helpful. Some great tips and yes I will remember to do the easy questions first .

cheers

Thanks guys. I received my score on Monday. I got 40/40 Literacy and 25/40 for Maths. I am a little disappointed in my Maths but at least it was a pass. I have been invited to attend an interview next week. I am hoping to study at Wodonga TAFE.

YAY!!! I have been formally accepted to study next year full time!! I am so excited. I also believe that it was my interview that got me in. There were 110 applications for just 47 positions so I am very honoured to have been given a place.
