Hi there 911insidejob,

I have just been back through some of my old posts and found that you replied regarding Careers Australia.

NO I havn't started there as yet, but I am planning on starting in either the April or July intake. I am very excited and am very much looking forward to it.

Which college are you going to?? Brisbane or Adelaide??

How do you find the program?? How intense is it?? How far into the program are you??

Out of all of the Stage 1 textbooks did you need them all?? Did you need any from the other 2 stages?? What sort of cost were you looking at for your textbooks? Did you need to buy and equipment?? eg Stethescope, Blood Pressure Cuff, Themometor etc?? How many shirts do you get?? (do they cater for bigger sizes - 16-26).

How many days and hours are you at college a week?

I have heaps of questions but I think I had better leave it at that for now.

Thanks heaps for responding to my first post.

I look forward to your reply.

Kind Regards - Danielle

My apologies Danielle for not responding to your post, I haven't been back to this website for some time.

To answer your questions:

I am attending the Brisbane collage and have almost completed semester/stage 2 which is comprised of Anatomy & Physiology, among other things.

Textbooks for stage 1: 'Tabbners' and 'Nursing and the Law' are all that are needed. Lewis's Medical-Surgical Nursing was required for stage 1 but NEVER used, it is handy from stage 2 onwards.though. For stage 2 you only need the Essentials of Anatomy & Physiology text book. Each book is around $100, exept the Nursing and the Law book which is $40 or there abouts.

Two polo shirts are supplied as are stethascopes, which appear to be of questionable quality. The polo shirts come in All sizes. Blood pressure reading-thingys and

thermometermejigs are not required.

The course hours are either Monday morning to midday Wednesday or midday Wednesday to close of business Friday, for Brisbane at least..

Stage 1 is quite busy, an assignment due most weeks, stage 2 is a bit more in depth and is mainly comprised of Anatomy & Physiology for which there is a 3 hour exam at the end of the stage. My A & P exam is in two weeks and hopefully I pass or else there is no chance of progression to stage 3!

Hope my super late response info has helped, please write back if you have more questions.

Good morning all,

I would really appreciate hearing/reading your thoughts on Careers Australia! I am going to Careers Australia - The Valley branch in late September to study a Cert III Aged Care before I go onto TAFE to study Diploma of Nursing.

The questions I have are:

* How professional is it there?
* How large is it? Roughly how many students are there?
* Roughly what are the hours of study (if anyone is already or has already taking Cert III Aged Care?

Can't wait to arrive. I'm a 35 year old English guy who's taking a massive career change from senior management in an international company to nursing.... and I cant wait!

Thanks

Moon
